Celebrating collective wins for the global migraine community
2021 was an exciting year for IHS-GPAC. With the help of partners and migraine advocates, we set to work on improving how healthcare systems and workplaces support people living with migraine. Here are our most notable accomplishments from the past year.
Education in Headache to Healthcare Providers in Africa
In collaboration with the World Federation of Neurology and the African Academy of Neurology, IHS-GPAC brought headache education to healthcare providers in Africa. This two-session virtual program brought free headache and migraine training to hundreds of healthcare providers from 31 countries in Africa and an additional 32 countries around the world. The program covered the pathology and classification of headache as well as treatments in English and French.
This event was a great success. We look forward to bringing accessible expert headache and migraine training to more regions in the future.
One Neurology Global Initiative
In 2021, we were proud to join OneNeurology’s global initiative. This partnership allowed us to work with international organizations under a goal of making neurology a global public health priority. We are excited to see what we can accomplish together as we increase advocacy, action and accountability for neurological disorders worldwide.
Migraine Education at Fujitsu
Leading technology company Fujitsu collaborated with IHS-GPAC to implement migraine education in the workplace. The program provided a rich case study about the impact of such programs on individual employees and the company as a whole. Key findings indicate that migraine education programs increase employees’ awareness and understanding of migraine. They also lead to greater support for employees with migraine.
Presenting on Migraine at Work at Scottsdale
IHS-GPAC Executive Committee members Nim Lalvani and Olivia Begasse de Dhaem, MD, co-presented a session at the American Headache Society’s Scottsdale Headache Symposium. During their presentation, Dr. Begasse de Dhaem discussed the impact of migraine on workplace productivity from both a personal and socioeconomic perspective. Lalvani updated attendees on how IHS-GPAC migraine management programs can intervene and change the conversation about migraine at work.
Migraine Fitness at Work
After months of preparation, IHS-GPAC officially launched our Migraine Fitness at Work program. This initiative was designed to create more migraine-friendly workplaces worldwide. It can also increase the understanding that employers and employees have of migraine and its impact on the workplace. Alongside this, it can help support people with migraine in the workplace and facilitate diagnosis and treatment of migraine at work. The lessons offer facts about migraine and tips for managing migraine at work.
We’re looking forward to sharing the benefits of this program with more companies in 2022.
